The Future Creatives Initiative
I am currently working with Taival Films and the Melbourne Women in Film Festival [MWFF] on an exciting new project finding the next up-and-coming woman screenwriter of Victoria, Australia. We're creating a film to be premiered at MWFF in 2020 and I'm Head of Audio Post-Production on the project.
'Nothing is Mundane' Sound and Visual Art Exhibition

I recently put together a sound installation as a part of an aural and visual exhibition. The concept was to use only everyday, found sounds - ones we experience on a day-to-day basis - that can sometimes lose meaning due to their ever-presence.
I put together eight tracks - two poetry recitals and four interview-type podcast pieces; layered with everyday sounds. As well as a piece presented as a sculpture (with small speakers) made up of only bird sounds, and a long-form abstract piece (presented across four standing speakers, in a 3x3m space).
The tracks are available now to listen via SoundCloud:

The 'Talk' tracks were presented on headphones for people in the gallery to sit down and take time to listen to (on CD and an iPod). I also provided a notebook for people to write down their own thoughts as they listened to others'.
The voices featured here belong to (in order of appearance in 'Introductions'):
Jeremy Tang
Heidi Ylä-Ajos
Caitlyn Claire Adshead
Nicholas Elliott
Curt Petroff
Lewis Murphy
Syaheed Ismail
Nic Spiteri
Elizabeth Munro
Olivia Sobejko
Chiara Molini.
The collection also features recitals of poem 'IX' from Alberto Caeiro's 'O Guardador', read by Sara Menezes.
These tracks were presented on headphones also, on stands next to pieces of art I thought they worked well with. Alternatively, as they were on iPod's, people could walk around with them as they viewed the artworks in the gallery.
'PRUFROCK' contains a recital of T.S.Eliot's work 'The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock', and 'PRELUDES' contains a recital of T.S. Eliot's work 'Preludes II' and 'Morning at the Window'.

This was the main piece of the exhibition - over 20 minutes long - it is an amalgamation of many of the sounds I collected. It was the most enjoyable to put together - I felt more creative freedom in this than any other tracks I've put together. The idea was to produce a piece of aural art the same way I would create an abstract painting, which held up - it definitely felt like that.
I wanted it to feel like a travelling across different spheres of our ordinary, every day lives - sometimes alone, in quiet, or with ordinary objects making sounds around us, with nature, hearing patterns in the world, sometimes in a loud, busy public area, sometimes with strangers, overhearing conversations, sometimes with friends and those we love, talking, laughing... Sometimes in our own heads, sometimes a part of a larger society, often both.
The track was outputted across four speakers - in the corners of a 3x3m space - to allow people to stand or sit in the centre of them and have sound reach them from four places. It created an immersive and absorbing experience of the sounds within the piece, and their interaction.

This piece was created to be played through speakers as a part of / in a sculpture. They entirely bird noises, re-arranged and mixed to create a rhythmic, somewhat cohesive track.
A very large thank you to all who joined me at this exhibition, and interacted with the work I created. It was extremely gratifying to share this with you all. Kind wishes! B.
Freelance Documentary, Post-Production
I had the absolute pleasure last year of working on a documentary about Austin, who has an amazingly touching story to tell, and a beautifully touching voice! I did the post-production on this documentary (directed by Monique Bettello) and recorded Austin's original music for the soundtrack. Will be available to share soon.
100-Mates of Finland Project...
I have had the pleasure recently of being the audio technician as part of a film crewing working on the 100-Mates of Finland project. We made a series of videos to celebrate Finland's 100 years of Independence, in collaboration with The Finnish Embassy of Canberra. The project included: a collection of interviews filmed in Melbourne City; a video for the Finnish design company Iittala, filmed in Bondi, Sydney, at the amazing Blanca Restaurant in Bondi with Chefs Tomi Björck and Sam Cole; and a film made for Fiskars Homeware Company.
A huge thanks to our chief in command - Heidi Ylä-Ajos - all those at IIttala, Fiskars and the Finnish Embassy of Canberra.
Happy 100th year of Independence Finland!

Song Exploding...
As part of a recent project, I re-arranged, recorded, mixed and edited a cover of Alt-J's Hunger of the Pine, in the style of Phil Spector (Be My Baby specifically). There is more detail about this in the following blog.

THE VENUE MENU! Coming soon...
The Venue Menu podcast has almost been completed! It is very exciting to almost have the final product - my group and I have been working so very hard on it, and want a high-quality, interesting podcast to share and promote. Please refer to this blog to learn more about the project! Here is our one-minute promotional clip, a taste of what the podcast will be covering...
Spec 8 in the studio...
I have been working with a fantastic duo recently - Spec 8 - made up of Reinette Joachim and Leeroy Zamudio. We recorded ten covers of popular funk, soul, tunes. They are soon all to be up on SoundCloud. Here are a few for now -

HOT ROD Sound Replacement...
As part of our Post-Production four-week intensive, my group and I had to choose a piece of media to replace the sound of...
We chose the opening sequence of the film Hot Rod (a truly great film).
Coincidentally, it was created ten years ago, in 2007, so I guess you could say that this is the ten-year anniversary special edition of the *first 4 minutes of the* film.
All of the sound has been created and produced by us. We had a load of fun, possibly too much.
There's more about the project in my blog about Post-Production - Faking Sound.

Working with the Neve Genesys...
Over the past four weeks, I have had the pleasure of being introduced to the Neve Genesys console. Due to the newness of it all, I began without too great-a fondness for it, but as the days went on (and my practise increased) I realised it is extremely enjoyable to work, and quite user-friendly.
Out of all the consoles I've used I'd say it's now my favourite. I like the mix of analogue and digital - of old-school and traditional with new and innovative. It provides a challenging, satisfying experience.

The Neve console @ SAE
Throughout us being acquainted with the console, my group (of five others) and I were given half a page of lyrics that we had to produce into an original song; composing, arranging, playing, producing and engineering the track.

A Sound-Replacement Activity...
This here below is a video I created as part of a sound replacement task for uni. The clip is taken from a favourite movie of mine 'The Triplets of Belleville', with all sounds created by myself either through recordings (singing and foley) or Ableton (as well as using Ableton and ProTools to edit).
Special thanks go out to Chiara Molini and Sara Menezes for assisting me to carry out the singing aspect of the clip, and Jeremy and Jarod Tang for their all-round greatness - Jeremy's expertise on the console and Jarod's brilliant laughing.
Here is an in-depth blogging about the processes involved in its making - Being Post-Productive

A Spot of Voice Acting...
I voiced the female actors and voiceover for my friend's sound replacement video. It was a laugh.

I made a remix of a song! Something I hadn't done before...
This was for an assignment using Ableton Live! The task was to take stems from a fellow student's work from last trimester (where we recorded an EP for a band), and create a unique remix of one of their songs... There was a list of criteria we had to address with the mix, including use of a Sampler, Operator, an Arpeggiator, our own created Drum Rack and a Groove Template.
More discussion about this assignment is in this blogging and this blogging.
And here is the final product -
